Huawei recently unveiled its Mate 70 series, and now the company confirms a groundbreaking achievement: the phone is entirely made in China. Richard Yu, Huawei’s CEO, shared this milestone at Baoan Middle School in Shenzhen, where he highlighted the autonomy of the Chinese semiconductor industry.
Huawei proudly revealed that they produce all components, including the Kirin 9020 chipset, within China. SMIC, a Chinese semiconductor firm, manufactures these chips and collaborates closely with Huawei.
Huawei’s Big Leap in Semiconductor Independence

However, past models like the Mate 60 did include Korean-made memory, raising questions about full localization. TSMC, another key player, recently discovered its chips reached Huawei products via third-party partners, despite ongoing US sanctions.
Limited International Availability
Huawei plans to keep the Mate 70 series exclusive to China. The company’s upcoming event on December 12 will focus on the global launch of its foldable Mate X6 smartphone, leaving the Mate 70 series unavailable outside domestic markets.
The Huawei Mate 70 represents a monumental step in China’s tech independence, particularly in chip production. Its limited availability does not diminish its undeniable impact on the global semiconductor industry.
