Tecno looking to partner with established lens maker for future products
Tecno looking to partner with established lens maker for future products. Although you may be aware of Tecno’s rise to prominence as a Top 10 smartphone brand worldwide and the company’s recent revelation of its intentions to join the premium market, you may have missed that it is also presenting itself as a pioneer in smartphone camera innovation.
And it hopes to take the next step with the help of some of the biggest names in the photography business by forming partnerships with them. On the unveiling of the Phantom X2, we chatted with Tecno’s head of marketing, Mr. Laury, who said, “For the Phantom X2 series, we had a consultation with the renowned photographer, Rankin.” Well-known for his portrait photography, he has shot many famous faces, including the Queen and several A-list actors and actresses.

He offered some invaluable advice as we worked to develop the ideal portrait camera. One of the greatest portrait cameras we have tested to date, it has a unique retractable design, a big sensor, and a wide aperture, all of which combine to produce beautiful bokeh in-camera without resorting to computational tricks.
The Tecno Phantom X2 Pro, which we just reviewed, has that camera. However, Tecno has more plans. The corporation has acknowledged that it is in discussion with well-known lens manufacturers about future product development.
Tecno didn’t provide specific names, but we’ll be hearing more about this in the coming weeks and months. We can rule out Hasselblad, Leica, and Zeiss since they have already formed partnerships with smartphone manufacturers, but there is still no lack of illustrious alternatives.
