Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Z Fold6 tomorrow at its grand Unpacked event in Paris. For a while, rumors suggested a Galaxy Z Fold6 Ultra (or Z Fold6 Slim) with a thinner body might also debut.
However, a new rumor claims the Fold6 Ultra project is on hold indefinitely. The Ultra was supposed to feature a thinner build and larger screens than the Fold6.
This doesn’t mean the Ultra will never launch. Samsung simply doesn’t have a launch planned for it at the moment, if this rumor is accurate.
Meanwhile, Honor (with the Magic V3) and Xiaomi (with the Mix Fold 4) are competing for the title of the world’s thinnest foldable smartphone. This title has been held by the Honor Magic V2 since last year.
Samsung has no contender in this competition. The Ultra could have been its entry into the thin-foldable market. Perhaps it wasn’t thin enough, leading to the project’s halt. We may never know.
One thing is clear – innovation in foldable hardware is coming from Chinese manufacturers, not Samsung. For years, Samsung led the foldable market share. However, this dominance has recently declined, indicating that some action might be necessary. The Galaxy Z Fold6, with its minor updates, is not the solution.
