LG V40 ThinQ is coming with the first penta camera features
LG V40 ThinQ is coming with the first penta camera features. Last week we looked back at the first quad camera phone, well, quad camera if you only look at the back. Allowing a front-facing camera brings the total to five.
But the Galaxy A9 (2018) wasn’t the first phone to have five cameras on board – the LG V40 ThinQ beat it by a few weeks. The V-series flagship from late 2018 is the topic of today’s Flashback. We’ll talk about its cameras, its other awesome features, some less awesome ones and a troubled launch.

The V40 was officially unveiled on September 27, but that announcement was not very detailed. The full reveal happened several days later on October 3rd. The phone became available soon after (October 16th), though some regions had to wait longer (e.g., Indian launch wasn’t until late January of next year).
But even before the official launch there was trouble brewing – renders showed that LG was about to commit the sin of adopting a notch display, spoiling the clean look that people enjoyed with V30. And it was quite wide too, but it did have a reason for this – it housed two different cameras (in addition to an earpiece).
