iPhone 16 Pro will feature 40W wired and 20W MagSafe wireless charging

The latest rumors from China suggest major upgrades for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max charging rates. While the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max charge up to 27W with a cable and 15W with MagSafe, the new models aim higher.

The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will support 40W wired and 20W MagSafe wireless charging. These are peak rates, not sustained throughout the charging process.

It’s unclear how these peaks will affect actual charging times, which matter most to users. If true, it’s good to see Apple advancing. While still far from Chinese brands’ 120W wired and 50W wireless rates, Apple is progressing.

The source claims higher peak rates will offset larger battery capacities in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. Apple aims to maintain charging speeds despite bigger batteries.

A rumor from a year ago predicted these charging improvements and the use of stacked battery technology, offering higher capacities and longer lifespans.

Apple will unveil the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max in September, alongside the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus.
