Intel launches the world’s fastest desktop CPU – an unlocked 5.5 GHz Core i9. Intel has announced at CES 2022 the 12th-gen processor Core i9-12900KS that can operate at 5.5GHz maximum frequency. It can reach the speed of up to two cores at the same time, delivering the best gaming performance for the most demanding gamers.
The Special Edition processor (hence the S at the end of the title) will be available beginning April 5 at $739. Additionally, it will be as a part of systems from OEM partners. The processor’s architecture is similar to that of the Core i9-12900K model, the most recent Intel flagship processor, featuring 24 threads and 16 cores with 30MB of L3 memory cache.

The thing that sets this model apart is the increased power base of 150W that allows the processor to operate at 5.5 GHz. As a contrast, the standard 12th generation Core i9 reaches 5.2GHz with an energy draw of 125W.
It has 16 processors divided into two clusters: eight for performance , and the remaining eight for efficiency. It is compatible with Z690 motherboards. Intel recommends the most recent BIOS version for “the most immersive game experience”.
