Huawei Mate 50 series teases by CEO, exclusive XMAGE system, satellite connectivity. The Huawei Mate 50 series, which is entering its 10th generation next week, will bring some new features to the family. What surprises does Huawei have in store for us? In a recent interview, CEO Richard Yu hinted at three exciting new features.
In the first place, the Mate 50 series will be the only one that includes the XMAGE camera. Although Huawei no longer has access to Leica’s expertise, this product is the culmination of years of experience manufacturing some of the most excellent camera phones available.
The XMAGE platform is said to use a bespoke NPU developed by HiSilicon rather than the Snapdragon ISP. After that comes a device that can “pierce the sky upward,” which many believe will be satellite communication for emergency text services (which Apple is rumored to include with the upcoming iPhone 14 series).

HarmonyOS 3 will be unveiled to the public on the Huawei Mate 50 series for the first time. An intriguing new function is the phone’s rumored ability to continue functioning in some fashion for a short time after the battery has died.
According to rumors, the phone will still be able to use NFC (allowing for mobile payments, mass transit passes, and so on) and may even be able to make calls for a while (clearly, that will require a small reserve of power). On September 6, Huawei has planned its Autumn Product Launch Conference, when the new Mate 50 series will be unveiled (Tuesday, which also happens to be the day before the iPhone 14 reveal).
