China Telecom revealed Huawei Mate 60 Pro with quantum security at DTEC, 2023

During the 2023 Digital Technology Ecology Conference (DTEC), China Telecom showcased a modified edition of the Huawei Mate 60 Pro featuring quantum security. This development follows last year’s introduction of the Mate 40E, which incorporated Quantum SIM support.

The enhanced Mate 60 Pro offers security for various communication aspects, including voice calls (VoLTE), messages, and file transfers. A Quantum Key Distribution algorithm generates a fresh key before initiating secure communication and then shares it with the recipient as part of the operational process. This key enables the recipient’s phone to decode the secured call, message, or file. To ensure the integrity of the communication, users must undergo secure authentication to verify their identity.

The security measures extend beyond the Quantum SIM card, encompassing a custom chipset and a closely guarded secret algorithm. Importantly, the recipient’s hardware must align with these specifications for the secure communication to proceed.

A substantial number of users are already using the quantum-secured online chat service provided by China Telecom, as the company disclosed having surpassed 1 million users. Regarding the Mate 60 Pro and Mate 40E with quantum security, we lack the expertise to discern the exact blend of quantum physics and sci-fi marketing involved. Nonetheless, the inclusion of enhanced privacy and security features is welcomed, regardless of the specific quantum mechanics at play. The pricing and availability details for the customized Huawei Mate 60 Pro with quantum security remain undisclosed at this time.
