Can Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 phones grab your interest? Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 12 series was a technological leap forward. As the first mid-range series to have a 200MP camera, this series also boasts the first smartphone to surpass the 200W charging threshold.
The four versions are now exclusively sold in China, but a global release is planned for the near future. Would you purchase one if/when they become available (assuming no major design changes)? The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro is the series’ centerpiece, so we’ll discuss it first.
It runs on the Dimensity 1080 and has a 6.67″ 120Hz OLED screen (10-bit panel, Dolby Vision) (an upgraded 920, the reason for which will become clear in a moment). In addition, a 5,000 mAh battery that may be quickly recharged by 67W is included.
A 50-megapixel main module (IMX766, 1/1.56″, 1.0m) with optical image stabilization (OIS) is part of this phone’s impressive camera setup, which also includes an ultra-wide (8-megapixel) camera with an angle of view of 119 degrees, a macro (2-megapixel) camera, and a 16-megapixel front-facing camera.

The camera and the battery life have been upgraded in the Pro+ version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12. The ISOCELL HPX, a 200MP 1/4.5″ sensor (0.56m pixels) with OIS, takes over first. There is no difference between the surviving cameras and the original ones (meaning 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro, and 16MP selfie). The 5,000 mAh battery has been upgraded to allow 120W rapid charging. This means you can go from dead to fully charged in only 19 minutes, compared to 46 minutes with the standard Pro.

The primary camera remains at 200MP, but this is the first smartphone to accept 210W of charging power. Please note that the 4,300mAh battery capacity is much lower than the original. The good news is that a 5-minute charge will bring it to 66%, and another 4-minute charge will get it to 100%.
It’s amazing, but unless you’re a die-hard computer geek, you better stick with the Pro+. The Redmi Note 12 Explorer, the world’s quickest charging technology, can be purchased in China for CNY 2,400 ($330/€330/27,300) for an 8/256GB model. What do you think? Because of this, your only option is the standard Xiaomi Redmi Note 12. Unlike the others in the series, this one employs the brand-new Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 processor as a Dimensity 1080. A 48MP primary camera has been replaced with a 2MP depth sensor and an 8MP front-facing camera (no ultra-wide, no OIS on the main module).
Similar in size and resolution to the panels on the other three, the 6.67″ 120Hz OLED display is nevertheless not a 10-bit panel and lacks Dolby Vision. It’s the same story with the 5,000 mAh battery, which can only be charged with 33W. (still pretty fast, ask Apple, Samsung, and Google).
